 Introduction to Buddhism course

This four-class course will focus on some key fundamental principles of Buddhism and will introduce simple tools for reducing worry and stress, calming the mind, improving concentration, and developing love, compassion, and joy. Each session will be an informal dharma discussion followed by short practice from The Buddha Path, a practice manual by Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche. For those who are looking forward to the Dalai Lama’s visit to SLC in October, this will be a great way to get ready! Classes are at The Yoga Center–4689 South 2300 East (Holladay Blvd) at 7:00-8:30 pm.

August 30: Positive Thinking–the cause of all happiness

September 6: ‘Who am I?’–the view of present moment thinking

September 20: ‘Refuge is Freedom’–Buddha, Dharma and Sangha

October 4: Awakening Compassion–the practice of tonglen

Everyone is welcome. No previous experience required. Drop in for any class, or plan to attend all four to deepen your practice. Suggested donation: $5-15.

This class will be taught by Joseph Evans (Orgyen Shiwo Dorje), who has been studying with Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche for 11 years, and has completed more than five months of retreat in the Dzogchen Shri Singha lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
